Oh the 40s, what incredible style. Take this rayon and lace dress for example. Its the darkest blue black, with this incredible lace bodice and those sleeves! Bishop style ending in narrow cuffs with points over the wrists.and snaps. The buttons up the bodice covered in matching fabric to the skirt which is lightly A line. The bodice is lined, the skirt not. There are loops for a belt but no belt alas. There are shoulder pads and they are made of velvet! Something I've not seen before. There are no closures, its just pulls over the head so its better if this is a bit loose. There is an inch or two of seam allowance through the waist and hips as it was taken in at some point. The old seam was left in however, so if you find the measurements a smidge small you could let those out.
